Acne Treatment – The Caveat

Acne Treatment – The Caveat

When it comes to acne treatments, the good news is that most all cases of acne, from the simplest to the most virulent ones, can be treated by dermatologists or acne skin care products. The bad news is that, while it is possible to get rid of acne totally, there are certain considerations that patients should remember in order to level their expectations.

First, dermatologists say that even the best acne treatment will not work overnight to give patients a clear and acne-free skin when they wake up. In fact, treatment products or acne experts who promise quick and easy results are most probably bogus. From the medical point of view, you need between six to eight weeks to see the initial results of an effective acne treatment. And once you begin to see the results, you will still need to follow maintenance procedures to make sure that they do not recur.

Second, dermatologists also caution against taking the advice of peers when it comes to choosing acne skin care products.

Our skin conditions vary, and the level of acne manifestation also differs from one patient to another. Naturally, the products that work for one patient may not work for another or, worse, may even produce adverse side effects on another patient who uses it without the doctor’s prescription. Acne products are prescribed based on the patient’s skin type as well as the kind of acne lesions that he or she is suffering from. So for your own good, and for the sake of your skin, don’t take any advice from any person who is not in a position to evaluate these factors.

Finally, it is a fact that there are cases which may require a dermatologist’s evaluation. If, for example, you have tried all types of over-the-counter products that promise acne-free face and have yet to see the result, the next logical step for your should be to consult a dermatologist. Your condition might be requiring special considerations that those mass-market products cannot provide. Dermatologists are experts on the skin, and are well in a position to diagnose the severity of your condition and prescribe the right treatment or procedure-or even a combination of both-that is right for you.
